SAN DIEGO - Seniors and disabled people will be able to get medical information and learn about resources available to them on a new county Web site.
San Diego County introduced the Web site Thursday to dozens of representatives from organizations that provide aid and programs for the elderly and disabled.
The Network of Care Web site is at www.sandiego.networkofcare.org. The Web site is being funded and operated by the county Aging and Independence Services Department.
The site, funded by the county for about $100,000, provides news stories on health issues, updates of state legislation that can affect seniors and the disabled, a resource guide for various programs and links to state and national programs and Web sites.
In addition, the site has a feature called "My Record" that individuals can use to place their medical history and prescriptions. Individuals can refer physicians to that site for their personal information. County officials said "My Record" is a protected site that requires a username and password for access. They said the information will not be given to other individuals or companies.
The Web site is modeled after similar ones in Alameda and Sacramento counties created with a grant from the California Department of Aging.
